The author discusses the French paradox, a hypothesis for observation of low coronary heart disease (CHD) and mortality rate. Topics discussed include the mortality trends from CHD and stroke in Western Europe, the incidence of CVD disease in France and several charts depicting mortality trends from stroke based on sex and country from 1950 to 1999.
