- Abstract
The article presents a report from the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on secondhand smoke exposure worldwide among 13-to-15-year-olds over a seven-year period. A "Global Youth Tobacco Survey" (GYTS) collected data on exposure to secondhand smoke among students who had never smoked, finding that nearly half were exposed at home and outside the home. Analysis also showed that these students were around twice as likely to start smoking as those not exposed to secondhand smoke. The report therefore recommends countries try to make all public places smoke-free. Further statistical data from the survey are presented.
