- Abstract
The article presents history and criticism of the postcolonial English-language South African fiction of Sheila Fugard. The focus is on the book "The Castaways", which expresses the unresolved antimonies of white South African identity. The wreck of the ship "Berkley" in the novel is a retelling of the wreck of the ship "Grosvenor" of the coast of South Africa in the eighteenth century.
