- Authors
SPERO, PATRICK
- Abstract
The article presents a discussion of the Conojocular War, a border conflict between the British colonies of Pennsylvania and Maryland which took place between 1732 and 1737. Particular focus is given to the impact of the dispute on Pennsylvania's relations with Native American groups, including the Conestogas and Iroquois, and its territorial expansion west of the Susquehanna River. The article traces the origins to border conflicts between the colonies to the charters granted to Pennsylvania founder William Penn and Maryland founder Lord Baltimore, discusses the leadership of Marylander Thomas Cresap in the conflict, and chronicles various land claims made by both colonies.
