- Abstract
The technical-tactical analysis in football through the use of observational methodology contributes to improve the knowledge of what really happens in the game. The aim of this study was to design, validate and analyse the reliability of a coding tool to record and describe crosses into the box in football, based on a six-phase strategy. Five experts and two observers participated in the design and validity process, forming the focus group, while two expert observers participated in the reliability process. The tool was configured with three macro-levels of 34 dimensions, 27 concurrent, five situational and two sequential, including a total of 285 categories. After prior observer training, 125 centres were used to calculate inter-observer and intra-observer reliability, using Cohen's Kappa. The results showed an optimal degree of agreement for the average of the variables (K > 0.86). The Generalisability analysis showed a high variability associated with the Dimensions [Categories] facets (86.2 %), being practically null for the Observers facets, together with the rest of the interactions. It is concluded that this tool is valid and reliable to describe the collective and individual performance of the centres to the area in football.
