- Abstract
The author discusses the plant canary seed which is scientifically known as Phalaris canariensis, belong to the family of Poaceae, found in Mediterranean region. It is used to treat diabetes in clinical practice and also for human consumption but with high silica content, it may cause esophageal cancer. Author believes that nopalitos as vegetable helps reduce glycemic load or can have beneficial effect in patients diet with diabetes.
