- Abstract
The article informs that biotechnology firm Invitrogen Corp.'s acquisition of Chinese competitor firm BioAsia is the first major acquisition by a foreign company in the life science sector. The move has been made possible by recent changes in the Chinese legal framework surrounding mergers and acquisitions by foreign companies in China. Although, until now, foreign biotech companies have been mainly interested in outsourcing production and some aspect of their research programs to the country, opportunities in acquiring research and development capabilities may not be quite ripe yet.
