The article differentiates two opposing forces in the use of language, referring to the prescriptivist and the descriptivist. Prescriptivists issue judgments about linguistic choices, whereas, descriptivists mostly disclaim making judgments about linguistic choices. It is the aim of prescribers to guide language users on how to handle words as effectively as possible. On the other hand, describers intend to discover the facts of how native speakers actually use their language.
