- Abstract
At the end of the Hungarian hyperinflation period of 1945-1946, the precise calculation of the inflation of customer prices never took place due to introduction of forint that detracted attention and resources. Although ample raw data are available from resources of the period, but inaccuracy and inconsistency can be frequently found among them due the requirements of daily measurements and the calculation limitations of the day. This paper accommodates the debt of 76 years when it intends to reconstruct the actual inflation rate of the period with data cleaning, computerbased calculations and precision, also presenting new results, and putting an end to many misconceptions. Based on the results we can conclude that the Hungarian hyperinflation of 1946 is not the highest in history because it was exceeded by the one in Zimbabwe in 2008.
