- Title
The Practice of Informed Consent.
- Authors
Quallich, Susanne A.
- Abstract
This article reports that informed consent is the legal doctrine that every adult individual has the right to decide what can and cannot be done to his/her person. This concept of consent was also the result of historical common-law suits for battery, and conventional practice dictated that participation both in medical treatment and medical research must be voluntary. As the health care environment becomes increasingly litigious, and as patients can obtain information freely via the Internet, understanding the specific components of informed consent becomes vital.
