The article discusses the views of Israeli scholar Eliezer Schweid on approaches by secular Jews to the study of traditional Jewish religious texts and culture. Topics discussed include the renewed interest of secular Jews in Jewish studies, varieties of secular and religious Zionism, relations between Israel and the Jewish diaspora, and philosophical issues of individual meaning and identity.
