- Abstract
An essay is presented on U.S. crime control policies and various formal and informal collateral consequences of criminal conviction as of October 2013, focusing on the Sixth Amendment to the nation's Constitution and the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the 2010 case Padilla v. Kentucky which deals with deportation and a criminal defendant's right to be informed of the collateral consequences which are associated with a guilty plea. The American criminal justice process is examined.
