- Abstract
What does information literacy mean for information professionals? And what for „normal“ people? Do we talk about the same content on the same level? This presentation is based on the hypothesis that information professionals are not able to sell their expertise -- thus pushing their customers to use search engines and other non-professional services -- a vicious circle leading to the sell-out of information experts in people's apprehension. What are the strengths of information professionals in comparison to search engines like Google? And why is Google so successful with their pre-filtered results? Where do information professionals need to dig in to become a lighthouse for a society overwhelmed by information overflow? The speaker has a long standing experience in information management in the pharmaceutical industry and tries to bring light into these questions.
