- Abstract
The article traces the history of the debates on knowledge in India. It is said that the modern Indian nation state was constructed as a social contract between science, development and security. It notes that scientific knowledge in India suffered from all symptoms of the development syndrome. It cites that the debates on knowledge offer insights into the value of science in India as a society, science as knowledge, and the narratives of progress that haunted science.
