The article focuses on a letter from author James Ballowe to writer and novelist Robert Coover on revisiting the novel "The Origin of the Brunists" and related letters from 1961 to 1967. Ballowe mentioned the reputation of Herrin, Illinois as an epicenter of the county known as Bloody Williamson. He emphasized the divided cultures of Herrin. Ballowe also mentioned his appreciation towards Coover's book "The Universal Baseball Association."
