- Title
A Dialogue Between Ideaphilos and Philologos (Intended to Prove Little and Clarify Much).
- Authors
Philmus, Robert M.
- Abstract
The article presents a conversation between Ideaphilos and Philologos, the two fictitious characters, on different terminologies in literature. They discuss the difference between criticism and interpretation. According to Ideaphilos, the function of a critic is to identify and explain the ideas in a literary work. Philologos thinks that the function of an interpretator is to understand the literature and not to give any normative criteria.
