- Title
A Logical Letter-Sound System in Five Phonic Generalizations.
- Authors
Gates, Louis; Yale, Ian
- Abstract
The article discusses a method for use by reading teachers in instructing students in systematic phonics. The strategy uses the logical letter-sound system, which involves grapheme-phoneme relationships. The authors address young readers' struggles with closed syllables, open syllables, and the vowel-consonant-e sequence. The strategy involves the study of vowel digraphs, phonograms, and vowel or consonant combinations and the authors discuss how reading teachers can instruct students and test their knowledge of basic and phonogram cells.
