- Abstract
The article discusses the historical use of ornamental page frames in European Hebrew incunabula, which the author believes are pieces of art. Hebrew texts that utilized decorative framework include the Torah, the Berakhot (part of the Mishnah), and the Mishneh Torah of Jewish philosopher Moses Maimonides. These frames were largely utilized by Italian Hebrew printers, with the author providing the work of the Soncino family as an example. The importance of Naples, Italy to the development of incunabular printing is explained as well.
