- Abstract
The article discusses a study which measured the biodegradability of single polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by liquid bacterial suspensions. The study used the Sphingomonas paucimobilis strain EPA505 suspension in the substrate depletion experiment. The PAHs are unsubstituted and have low molecular weight and methyl-substituted homologs. The result of the experiment is said to be beneficial for developing quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs) for biodegradability and for modeling biodegradation of simple PAH mixtures.
