- Title
Human genetics: Variants in common diseases.
- Authors
Freimer, Nelson B.; Sabatti, Chiara
- Abstract
The article evaluates the genome-wide-association (GWA) studies of common diseases which aim to examine the variation in human genome. It states that GWA studies rely on linkage disequilibrium that enables single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) to act as marker for association to other genetic variants. It stresses that GWA studies provides information not only about the new genes but also clarifies how human evolution made the diseases that are common today.
