- Authors
Whiteford, Peter
- Abstract
The article explores how English poet Gerald Manley Hopkins used the word "cheeks" in his nineteenth-century poem "The Loss of the Eurydice." Topics discussed include the creation of the poem in response to the 1878 foundering of the British Royal Navy (RN) ship Eurydice, the critical reviews earned by the poem compared to other writings of Hopkins, and the analogies based on the human body previously used by Hopkins.
