A critique is presented of the poem "London" by Samuel Johnson, arguing that the character Thales does not refer to Johnson's friend Richard Savage, but instead to quotes from Roman poets Juvenal and Phaedrus and from the book "Epistles" by Horace. A passage that refers to a fable and the theme of plagiarism is described.
