- Abstract
The article focuses on the descriptions of Queen Elizabeth I to Coventry. The only visit to Coventry by Queen Elizabeth I was from 17-19 August 1566. The Queen spent a weekend in Coventry on her way to stay with her favorite the Earl of Leicester at Kenilworth Castle. A number of descriptions of her visit have survived, several of which mention that pageants were shown to the Queen by various Coventry guilds. One description was printed by John Nichols, who misdated the visit as in 1565. In Records of Early English Drama: Coventry R. W. Ingram printed extracts from several descriptions, as well as from Coventry town and guild account-books, and listed numerous annals, each with a few lines describing the royal visit.
