- Abstract
Teletandem is a telecollaborative language learning modality mediated by digital information and communication technologies, which promotes contact between Brazilian and foreign university students and the exchange of languages and cultures, being structured by two elements, interaction and mediation sessions. At Unesp Araraquara, it is usually held at the language laboratory. Due to the social distancing/isolation resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, Teletandem has been developed remotely, which resulted in changes mainly to the mediation session. This qualitative and interpretative study aimed to reflect on these changes, through data analysis of questionnaires and mediation sessions transcription. The results indicate that the WhatsApp tool was not effective for conducting mediation sessions, since the intersection of messages compromised the flow of conversations, not encouraging reflections on the questions posted by the mediators. On the other hand, mediation through Zoom was similar to face-to-face mediation and kept the elements that trigger reflection: sociointeractionism, metacognition and experiences sharing. Such findings can be used to (re)think about the organization and the Teletandem scope after the pandemic period.
