- Abstract
Proliferating pilomatricoma is a rare, rapidly-growing variant of the benign pilomatricoma, which - in case of incomplete excision - may often lead to local recurrence. In our report, through the case of a growing tumor on the hairy scalp, we discuss the differential diagnostic difficulties and the surgical therapy and give a literature overview on the disease. Based on the imaging procedures and the fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), the lesion was considered to be malignant, but the final histopathological results proved to be benign. During a follow up period of 13 months after surgery no locoregional recurrence has been detected.
