- Title
LA CORTE DI CARLO DI BORBONE A NAPOLI: SEDI E CERIMONIALI.
- Authors
Maria Rao, Anna
- Abstract
In recent years the Neapolitan Bourbon court, long neglected by historiography, has been the subject of an increasing number of studies, which have highlighted numerous aspects of court life: births, weddings, funeral ceremonies, festive arrangements. This contribution deals with another aspect: the multiplicity of the venues of the Bourbon court created by Charles of Bourbon immediately after his arrival in Naples. As soon as he assumed the Neapolitan throne, the young sovereign launched a demanding architectural programme aimed at multiplying the court’s spaces and forging a new majesty: the royal palace in Naples was joined by the palaces of Capodimonte and Caserta, and other minor venues linked to hunting. Above all, Portici was the centre of interest for the King and Queen Maria Amalia, who spent long periods there every year.
