- Abstract
The dynamics of concentration of ownership in the media constitute a sign of power in Latin American societies and of adjustment to an economistic conception of development. For this reason, the critical expressions of the social groups that claim to see themselves represented in the design of the messages are ignored or minimized. The objective of this study is: 1) to identify the expressions of development from the public media in Latin America. The present study classifies as descriptive with theoretical and documentary character. It is identified that the media of the continent exert influence on the economic and political relations of the states where they are developed. The concentration on the ownership of the media has not only acted to the detriment of public communication experiences, but also of the possibilities of pluralism in content and participation of audiences in production processes. It is concluded that the main consequence has fallen on the homogenization of the realities that are represented in the media, given that interculturality and the needs for information, education and entertainment of large segments of the population represented in the audiences are canceled on a daily basis.
