- Abstract
This article focuses on Harry W. Smallenburg, director of the Division of Research and Guidance of the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools Office since 1944. He was presented the 1965 Nancy C. Wimmer Award at the American Personnel and Guidance Association Banquet held during the association's Minneapolis Convention in April 1965. Beginning his career as an elementary and junior high school teacher in Buffalo, New York, he served as a junior high school teacher and counselor in Burbank, California, after receiving his M.S. in 1935. In 1939 he was appointed Acting Director of Individual Guidance at Burbank where he also was Director of Research and Elementary Principal. From 1941 until appointed to his present position in 1944, Smallenburg held the position of Director of Research for the Burbank city school system. He presently holds the office of Secretary with the California State Psychological Association. Smallenburg was President of the American School Counselor Association in 1957-1958 and of the California Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development for 1951-1952.
