- Title
Comment on "The Policy of Exclusive Franchising in Cable Television"
- Authors
Wirth, Michael O.
- Abstract
The article features the comments made by Thomas Hazlett on the article written by Rolland Johnson and Robert Blau entitled "Single versus Multiple-System Cable Television." He believed that the article could have been improved by considering various factors including whether cable television is a natural monopoly or whether competition, whether average consumer benefits from exclusive cable franchising and whether the relevant product market should be restricted to cable television. Hazlett believed that with the presence of technology and market conditions, direct competition between cable firms is unlikely and the elimination of municipal policies can lead to de facto exclusive cable franchises which could be likely in average consumer's interest.
