- Abstract
The leaf extract of Albizzia lebbeck (Linn) Benth was tested for its antidiabetic potential in a streptozotocin -induced diabetic model of mice; simultaneously, the glycogen content was estimated in the liver and muscles tissues as it is a direct indicator of insulin activity. Administration of the leaf extract of A. lebbeck to such mice resulted in a significant increase in the glycogen content in the liver and skeletal muscles in addition to enhancing the Cytosolic malate dehydrogenase (cMDH) activity. The leaf extract of Trigonella foenum- graecum was taken as a positive herbal drug and Rosiglitazone, a PPAR-γ-agonist, as a standard drug.
