- Abstract
Aiming to promote local producers an alternative method of parasite control, this study evaluated the efficiency anthelmintic anthelmintic of aqueous extract of Carica papaya seed, in contrast with levamisole hydrochloride in 45 sheep no breed standard of Rio Grande do Norte. We evaluated the reduction in egg count per gram of feces and reduction of third stage larvae in all three groups (control, levamisole hydrochloride and extract) defined. Statistical differences between and within groups were conducted using analysis of variance followed by Tukey's test. Values of P<0.05 were considered significant. When each group was compared to its corresponding zero days, it was observed that OPG extract group showed a reduction constant and similar to the group levamisole hydrochloride and the third day was superior to the latter. Regarding Larvae were identified Haemonchus sp., Oesophagostomum sp. and Tricostrongylus sp. in all groups. Although the extract has shown a reduction in egg counts the number of larvae, particularly those of the type Haemonchus sp. was constant. The papaya seed extract used in treated sheep was effective in controlling OPG during the experimental days.
