- Abstract
A 67-year-old man presented with back pain and a peripheral leukocytosis consisting predominantly of lymphoplasmacytoid cells that were difficult to classify by morphology. Atypical plasma cells predominated in the bone marrow. Immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry confirmed CD138-positive, κlight chain-restricted plasma cells with strong nuclear positivity for cyclin Dl. Cytogenetic studies revealed a t(11;14)(q13;q32) translocation. Plasma cell leukemia with lymphoplasmacytic morphology, cyclin Dl up-regulation, and t(11;14)(q13;q32) is a distinct presentation of plasma cell myeloma.
