- Abstract
The article discusses the significance of portraits in medieval literature with reference to the works of poets Marie de France and Chrétien de Troyes. It mentions that these poets have used portraits to convey a character's complementary inner and outer beauty. It informs that the conventional portrait has its limitations towards ethos and habitus and has its goal to convey the habitual character of a figure.
