- Title
THE SUPREME COURT'S REINFORCEMENT OF THE INVISIBILITY OF MEXICANS.
- Authors
Lopez, Melissa Vargas
- Abstract
Undocumented Mexican immigration is quickly increasing; so long as employers continue to hire low wage workers, more will continue to come. When Mexican immigrants are attacked as job thieves and un welcomed and uninvited guests, they are brought into the limelight and are labeled the "enemy" of Americans. Yet, unless Mexican immigrants are being socially attacked, in periods where Mexican immigrant labor is needed, they are rendered invisible as a people and are ignored in social issues--everywhere from labor laws that do not afford protections for undocumented immigrants to the racial tensions in the United States. This comment sheds light on the legal issues surrounding the social invisibility of Mexican immigrants and in doing so highlights the need for immigration reform. Without reform, the lives of Mexican immigrants are in danger, especially in light of the new leadership in the United States and the likely negative immigration impact that it will introduce.
