- Abstract
The aging process is becoming a global phenomenon. Thus, our objective was to identify the relationship between quality of life and motor performance in active elderly. This was an exploratory, descriptive and analytical research, with a cross-sectional and quantitative design. The correlation between Motor Performance and Quality of Life was obtained through Spearman correlation with a significance level set at 5%. The sample included 59 patients from the city of Vitoria da Conquista/BA The study found that a greater distribution of female elderly citizens (83.1%), with incomplete elementary school (39%), married (42.4%) and with a family income from 1 to 3 minimum wages (45.8%). Concerning the health conditions, there was a greater distribution of elderly people with health problems (98.3%), classified as independent in the basic activities of daily living (71.1%) and dependent (64.4%) in the instrumental activities of daily living. As for the quality of life, the physical (14.16 points), psychological (13.77 points) and environment (14.37 points) domains are undermined. Regarding the motor performance, the elderly people showed limitation only in the activity related to balance (52.5%). There was only significant statistical difference in the domains of quality of life and the activity of balance of the motor performance (p = 0.000). We concluded that quality of life may interfere directly in the motor performance of the elderly people, since it determines the welfare and the ability to remain autonomous to perform their activities of daily living.
