- Abstract
Eight varieties of grain amaranth were tested at Agricultural Research Station, Keshwana, Jalore during 2008-09 and 2010-11 with the objective to find out suitable varieties for irrigated situation of arid zone. During first year, the grain productivity ranged between 28.28 q/ha to 33.20 q/ha with the average of 30.95 q/ha; however, during second year, it ranged between 19.03 q/ha to 25.97 q/ha with the average of 22.53 q/ha. Being a C-4 plant, grain amaranth may be an appropriate option for crop diversification under climate change scenario of arid zone. Grain amaranth varieties RMA-7, GA-l and RMA-4 were found relatively higher productive under irrigated situation of arid zone. Therefore, these varieties may be promoted for cultivation for enhancing the productivity of grain amaranth in arid zolie.
