- Abstract
Introduction: Knowing the timing of the operating room can lead to careful planning, allowing you to identify weak points and criticalities, being able to then concentrate the forces in these points in order to correct them. Planning adds value to an organization but must be guaranteed by performance indicators of operating times. These indicators make it possible to analyze the operating process by evaluating performance. The goal of the study is to know the timing of the operating room, obtaining a better daily planning. Materials and Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted from 1 November 2020 to 30 April 2021, involving the five surgical branches of the IRCCS CROB in order to analyze and monitor the operating times of surgical interventions by proposing a support tool. The study uses three indicators: Pre-operative time (T1), Surgical time (T2) and Post-operative time (T3). Results: From the analysis of the data it emerges that there were 209 valid interventions. The pre-operative time stood at 58.55 min, the postoperative time at 36.84 min and the surgical time at 99.76 min. The pre- and post-operative times are the main times on which to obtain a margin for improvement and therefore the first on which to act. Discussion: The adoption of a consultation tool with the average times of the interventions can help staff in estimating the duration and occupancy of the rooms. The study presented is aimed at improving the performance of the operating room in terms of quality of care, effectiveness and efficiency by obtaining a better daily planning. Conclusion: Continuous monitoring of operating times with periodic reviews is desirable.
