- Abstract
We report the case of a 38-year-old man that was referred to our institution for abdominal ultrasound and contrasted computed tomography (CT) for liver transplant protocol. The last 18 months he was being mis-diagnosed with a primary idiopathic cirrhosis; previous echocardiography was performed without alterations. In contrasted CT, pericardial thickening was observed, further background interrogation was made, and history of methamphetamine abuse was obtained. He was diagnosed with pericardial fibrosis causing constrictive pericarditis and liver failure. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging was the primary method of diagnosis. Patient underwent pericardiectomy with successful outcome, and department of pathology confirmed hyalinized pericardial fibrosis.
