- Title
On the Creative Art of Literary Translation.
- Authors
SANDERS, BRETT ALAN
- Abstract
The article discusses literary translation as a delicate and creative art and explores its inherent difficulties. Literary theorist Walter Benjamin believes that it is the task of the translator to reveal the universal with what his own language would allow. On the other hand, multilingual novelist Vladimir Nabokov favors literal translation to preserve local color and all tangible and irreplaceable details. The challenges in translating the novel "The Passion of Nomads," by María Rosa Lojo, as well as the use of annotations, are also explained.
