- Abstract
The rediscovery of the lay vocation was one of the great triumphs of the Second Vatican Council, so that there was recognition of its participation in the entire mission of the Church. This is very evident in what the council called "secular character", that is, the sanctification and ordering of the things of the world to God. However, it was also recognized that in services ad intra, laypeople could collaborate with ordained ministers, as they manifest this mutual collaboration as well as the ministeriality of the Church as a whole. In regions where priests are lacking, this is even more important. For this reason, the Church proposes the stable establishment of the ministries of reader and acolyte. Because of this and taking into account both the pontifical magisterium and the canonical norm and doctrine (of the Ministeria Quaedam and the rules for Brazil), the article tries to analyse the ministerial character of the laity giving a specificity to these two ministries, since they are a possibility to put into practice what was requested by the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for the Pan-Amazon Region: instead of a "pastoral visit", a "pastoral presence".
