WHAT DOES CYCLONE NARGIS TELL US ABOUT BURMA?
- Authors
Perry, Peter; Winkleman, Samuel
- Abstract
The author looks into what cyclone Nargis reveals about the current political structure in Burma. He infers that the catastrophic event which devastated the country in May 2008 served as a canvass for military junta as evidenced through the restrictions placed on disaster relief operations workers and delays encountered by international aid agencies. He sees Burma's own disaster relief exercise as a protrusion of the country's objective to change its constitution.
