- Abstract
The article focuses on the development of the "Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Media Literacy Education," also known as the Code, in the U.S. It states that the creation of the Code helps media literacy educators to better understand the doctrine of fair use, a part of the Copyright Act of 1976 which states that people have the right to use copyrighted materials freely for special purposes including research, criticism and news reporting. A brief overview of the contents of the Code is also presented.
