- Abstract
The article presents information about a new species of Sylvisorex, called Sylvisorex akaibei, which was discovered in lowland forests north of Kisangani in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The new species of the African forest shrew has a different external morphology, characterized by a short tail which has long bristle hairs on the basal part. The skull of the Sylvisorex alkabei is similar to that of Sylvisorex lunaris although the two species are not closely related. According to the article, the discovery reflects the diverse small mammal fauna in the lowland forests of the Congo.
