- Abstract
The Migrant Ecologies Project, founded in 2009 by Lucy Davis, is a transdisciplinary endeavor that explores the intersectionality between art, ecology, and human and more-than-human connections in Southeast Asia. The project focuses on ecological grief and aims to deepen interspecies relationships and contribute to conservation efforts. Through various artistic and scholarly collaborations, the project addresses the impact of ecological devastation on marginalized communities and seeks to make visible the losses experienced by both human and nonhuman beings. The project uses visual mnemonics and reflective nostalgia to challenge the narrative of nature's irretrievability and encourage remembrance and engagement with the world. However, the project also faces challenges, such as displacement and geopolitical cruelty, which raise questions about the ability of artist and activist movements to resist borders and regimes. Overall, the Migrant Ecologies Project offers a space for thoughtful remembrance and playfulness in the face of destruction, reminding us that we are interconnected with the wounds of others.
