- Abstract
An essay is presented about the importance of humanism in the history of contemporary Africa. It examines such topics as the intellectual roots of colonial historicity, colonialism, and apartheid. It cites the two types of societies as identified by Lucien Lévy-Bruhl in his book "Primitive Mentality," namely, the Western Society and the Prelogical or non-Western societies. The views of philosophers Immanuel Kant and David Hume on the issues are also cited.
