- Authors
Gobright, Alex Patrick
- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the environmental organization Scenic Hudson Preservation Conference, which seeks to preserve New York's Hudson River Valley. The author traces the group's origins to the efforts of Irvington, New York, residents to fight the installation of a Consolidated Edison (Con Ed) company hydroelectric plan on Storm King Mountain. It is argued that Scenic Hudson's work helped bring about the rise of the U.S. environmental movement in the 1960s.
