- Abstract
The article focuses on the portrait paintings of Hudson, New York residents Ashbel Stoddard and Patience Bolles Stoddard by 19th century painter Ammi Phillips. The author explains that Ashbel Stoddard founded Hudson's first newspaper, the "Hudson Weekly Gazette," discusses the history of the Stoddard family, and analyzes the career of Phillips in regard to his portrait work.
