- Abstract
Pablo Schmelzer's monograph explores the short-lived alliance between German student movements and African American movements in the late 1960s to mid-1970s. The author examines the reasons for the alliance's brevity and the obstacles to effective communication and cooperation. The book fills research gaps regarding the influence of the Black Panther Party on the European student movement, transnational perceptions within the German movement, and African American GIs' perspectives on cooperation with the German movement. The author analyzes events chronologically, delves into content analysis of underground journals, and discusses issues of race, gender, and communication. Overall, the book provides a detailed account of the alliance and its impact, making it a valuable resource for further historical studies.
