- Abstract
The article focuses on the development of the use of police water cannon trucks and truck-mounted water cannons in Germany. According to the author, German water cannons were first used during the Weimar Republic in the 1930s because of the emergence of large street battles and demonstrations resulting from unemployment and collapsing economy. It notes that water cannon trucks were originally used to separate violent and non-violent demonstrators and are usually manned by members of Bereitschaftspolizei (Bepo) riot police. It also mentions that the Bepo police of Germany now uses various models of water cannon trucks such as the WaWe 9 and WaterCannon 10000 which has a capacity of 10, 000 liters of water.
