- Abstract
The article focuses on the emergence of the strong women characters in the novels of Shashi Deshpande. The author believes that Deshpande uses the postmodernism in deconstructing the patriarchic culture and customs in Indian society. Deshpande emphasizes this technique in tackling the issues of marital relationship, myth of man's superiority and sex in "Moving On," "The Binding Vine," "Roots and Shadows," "The Dark Holds No Terror," "The Binding Vine," "The New Woman" and "The New Woman."
